In this unit, you will become a reporter of 'live' sport. You will learn how to write and produce stories in the various genres of sports reporting such as news, match reports, investigative, and previews. As part of developing your news-gathering techniques, you will learn how to use and verify a range of data sources, and how to use interview techniques for a range of reporting purposes. You will get first-hand experience chasing your own stories in the field by reporting from the sidelines of real matches with real athletes.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Produce stories across sports journalism genres for a range of platforms such as online, social and broadcast;
2. Apply reporting skills by covering and summarising live sporting events on location;
3. Create quality multimedia content from the field using text, photos, video and audio; and
4. Gather and interpret official data sources to report on sporting issues.
