This unit explores the dynamic relationship between individuals and their environments, with a focus on how environmental factors influence occupational participation across the lifespan. Students will examine physical, social, institutional, and virtual environments, and how these can support or hinder occupational participation. Through the application of the occupational therapy process, students will learn to assess and modify environmental factors to enhance participation, inclusion, and well-being. The unit integrates principles of universal design and considers the legal and ethical responsibilities of occupational therapists when recommending or implementing environmental changes, with reference to contemporary capability and competency practice evidence.
